[Photo][Photo][Photo][Photo]As the acedemic year moves into full swing, each day brings moments where I may reacquaint with friends and coworkers from the Elwha River Project, Near Shore Assessment Project, and other contributing research programs. Required classes introduce important mentors, whom offer lectures and insights into the vast and complex endeavors required to gain a baseline assessment of the Elhwa River Ecosystem as it is now, fully impacted by the 90 year influence of the two dams. Suggestions for required reading lead to a myriad of interesting websites and pristine images of this beautiful ecosystem. The list of contributing research articles from so many different research disciplines incites a flame of interest. One may hear the voices of these people, and their deep and abiding commitment to the project. In review of Bull Trout Studies, I came upon most current research conducted here,in these past months...The 42-mile snorkel-survey of the Elwa must have been one coordinated effort! The Elwha River Education Image Collection was wonderful for my daughter to view, especially the elk, whom we shared a farm with in these past two years. But the most original voice was that of Jamie Glasgow, in his report on the surveys of the Upper Elwha River and Sauk Basins - in Last Fish/Last Habitat Survey (www.washingtontrout.org/elwhasauk.shtml), with his friends. He is so funny, and yet speaks so sincerely of how endearing the importance of the longterm goal of the Project is to him. Another article of interest on Recovery of the Domains of the Elwha (nwr.noaa.gov.../Recovery-Domains/Pugetsound/upload/ch5-Elwha.pdf) outlines efforts to gather seeds and plants of naturally-occuring species of the Elwha Basin, in anticipation of re-establishing habitat and reducing invasive species as the riverbank is exposed with the draining of Lake Aldwell and Lake Mills. The span of research and professional input seems almost beyond scope! How wonderful to be welcomed into such a concerted and caring effort! May my input be worthy of such an unprecedent opportunity. Thank You, ALL oxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
